The GCU provides an intelligent interface between an operator s Video Display Terminal (VDT) or automated Network Management System (NMS) and a local T-SMART System called a group.A GCU group may consist of up to 16 shelves controlled by one GCU (the group can contain up to 184 T-SMART CSUs and 7 SIUs). The GCU provides database management and storage of alarm conditions and alarm history.
